With over 45 years of hands-on experience, Armstrong Audio is a trusted name in the repair and restoration of mid-range, high-end, studio-grade, and audiophile equipment.

Our long history and deep technical expertise make us uniquely positioned to bring vintage and modern audio gear back to life — combining traditional craftsmanship with a passion for sound.

A Legacy of Sound

Founded in 1932 as Armstrong Wireless & Television Ltd., the company began in Camden, London, producing public address systems, radios, and televisions — even supplying equipment for use during WWII.

As the hi-fi revolution of the 1950s took hold, Armstrong evolved with it, launching “The High Fidelity Sound” range of amplifiers and receivers that defined the golden age of British audio. The celebrated 600 Series amplifier, known for its performance and design, built a loyal following — and many of those original units still come through our doors for servicing today.

Changing Times

By the 1980s, British audio manufacturing faced tough competition from the technically advanced Japanese brands — names like Sony, Nakamichi, Technics, Yamaha, and Sansui. Armstrong adapted, shifting focus from manufacturing to servicing and repairs, and became Armstrong Hi-Fi & Video Services Ltd., relocating to Walthamstow, London.

Through the 1980s and 1990s, we repaired not only audio but also visual equipment — TVs, VCRs, and camcorders — supporting major retailers such as Curry’s, John Lewis, Dixons, Comet and Rumbelows with warranty repairs, alongside insurance company claims and maintenance contracts with the BBC and TfL.

It was during this period that Twaleb “T” Joomun, who had begun his journey with the company in the mid-1970s, took ownership, bringing decades of hands-on experience and a lifelong passion for audio to the helm.

Before the digital era, music and video lived on physical formats — vinyl, reels, cassette tape, CD, MiniDisc, VHS and BetaMax — that relied on mechanical systems. These machines needed regular servicing to perform at their best, and it was in this world that Armstrong earned its reputation for reliability, precision, and care — values that remain at the heart of what we do today.

By the early 2010s, music and video had gone fully digital, with phones and computers taking over as the main way to play, record and now share on. Manufacturing had become faster and cheaper thanks to robotics, and the idea of repairing was slowly replaced by a culture of throwaway and upgrade. For those of us who value craftsmanship and lasting quality, it marked a turning point.

Present Day

By 2017, Armstrong chose to return to its roots — focusing on what it knew best: audio. Rather than chasing the ever-changing pace of digital technology, T decided to specialise in what he was most knowledgeable and passionate about and in the era that defined true sound — the 1960s through to the 2000s — when listening to music was a hands-on experience, full of switches, dials, and beautiful mechanical precision.

It’s this heritage, combined with decades of expertise, that has shaped Armstrong Audio into what it is today: a trusted specialist in vintage and retro audio repair, known for craftsmanship, care, and an unrivalled understanding of the machines that make music sing.

Today, we welcome more types of customers than ever — from passionate audiophiles to working professionals, the nostalgic and sentimental, to those craving a hands-on, tactile experience, and even those trying to step away from "Big Tech". Many though, simply come because they love what their equipment means to them and want to keep that meaning for many more years.

Our aim now is to share the joy of analogue sound with more people, show that repairing is better than replacing, and look forward to celebrating 100 years of Armstrong in 2032!
